Last week we had the opportunity to meet the technical staff of Solar Duck and MechDes Engineering to present our insights on best practices for the use of aluminium in offshore applications. It was impressive to learn about the in’s and outs of their magnificent design of a floater for offshore generation of solarpower.
SolarDuck and the engineers of MechDes have embraced aluminium as a base material for their innovative floating solar solutions. It is a perfect choice, once engineers recognize the opportunities ánd threats of using light and durable aluminium in such harsh environment. Topics of optimizing weight and functionality, using appropriate connection materials, but also all relevant aspects of preventing galvanic corrosion and for instance fatigue have been thoroughly reviewed with the participants.
It was a great session with lots of lessons learned for all.
