For those who want to skip 33 pages: the chart below illustrates how the CO2 equivalent is developing and what can be achieved in coming years. By optimising the production-process and the use of renewable energy, European manufacturers are able to offer aluminium with a 4.5 kg CO2 equivalent. And through maximising recycled content to >75% nowadays new high quality aluminium can be sourced with a mere 2.3 kg CO2 equivalent per kg.
Next developments will most certainly help us further towards the 0.5 kg milestone. And beyond, why not?
